What is TIK TOK?
Despite its rapid rise, there are still plenty of people — often, older people — who aren’t quite sure what TikTok is. If you haven’t already heard of Tik Tok, it is said to be one of the fastest growing social platforms in the world! The app, mainly aimed at content creators, presents an alternative version of online sharing of short videos with music, filters, and other features. Although the app was officially launched in 2016, its popularity has grown massively in 2019, and we believe it is the platform to watch in 2020. Statistics
- 500 million active users (datareportal, 2019)
- 3rd most downloaded app in Q1 with 188 million new users (SensoTower, 2019)
- 41% of users between 16 – 24
- 90% of TikTok users access the app daily
What type of content is working the best on TikTok for businesses in 2020?
User Generated Content
User Generated Content is the basis of TikTok as a platform. ‘Generation Z’ love an immersive experience. This generation of users prefers to be involved and stimulated. The more entertaining the videos the more they will resonate with your audience.
Unlike Instagram, TikTok largely rejects polished, high-quality content. For this reason it has earned a reputation as a casual platform where users comfortably express themselves. TikTok thrives on a touch of quirkiness and avoids heavily commercial-style productions. This platform is perfect if you want to show the creative side of your business.
Biddable ads –
TikToks’s rep-based ad setup is not the norm for this type of ad. In other networks advertisers have access to a self serve bidding platform where they can manage their own ad spend and campaign. This however may change in the future as TikTok’s marketing demand grows. Due to the lack of options available right now there is only one type of biddle ad available and that is the in-stream video. TikTok’s ad targeting is known to be very basic. So far, the targeting filters only allow you to include and exclude by age, gender and location.
Brand page take over
This allows brands to take over your TikTok account for a set period. Creating images, GIFs, and videos with embedded links to landing pages, great for brand exposure

- Viral Challenges
- Influencer collaborations
For part of 2018, it unseated Instagram as the top free app in the Apple Store and remains in the top five position of the free app charts. With 1 billion users, it’s safe to say TikTok is here to stay. Even celebrities (celebrity parents, that is!) are getting jumping on the TikTok craze TikTok is a platform for one style of short and sweet comedy, but it pulls it somehow seems to work. It also allows celebrities to branch out to younger and new audiences. Recently Jimmy Fallon’s #TumbleweedChallege created 8,000 videos with over 9 million views in seven days. This organic growth is huge and something that we are not seeing regularly on the likes of Facebook and Instagram. With a huge audience of younger users it would be silly for businesses to ignore the Tik Tok craze!
